2017 Jamie Kirk Hahn Foundation Fellow
Raleigh City Farm (RCF) is a small but mighty nonprofit with an active board and only one paid staff member. In her work with RCF, Kristin was able to plug in on many projects during her summer fellowship, from writing her first Letter of Interest for a grant from a major foundation to finalizing RCF’s advocacy portion of their strategic plan.
Kristin also created and implemented the farm’s first Summer Movie Series to engage diverse audiences in sustainable urban agriculture. To aid in fundraising for their new community pavilion, she launched a Help Us Build crowdfunding campaign and raised over $3000 by September 2017. Funds raised in the Community Pavilion fundraiser will be put to good use to help the farm secure additional foundation support and corporate sponsorships.
Finally, Kristin applied her organizational skills to the Raleigh City Farm's Google Drive to organize files for staff and board members. According to Rebekah Beck, General Manager, "The corporate file organization has already come in handy for our Board members and will continue to be refined and used by them to have easy access to documents that are proprietary to Raleigh City Farm."
Kristin continues to volunteer with Raleigh City Farm because of her strong connection made during the Fellowship.

“I have been connected to some of North Carolina’s finest conservation leaders who have further motivated me to pursue a career in environmental education after college. The foundation has reignited my love for my home state while also challenging my previous notions of North Carolina’s food systems and its people’s efforts to affect policy. I am eager to continue building on existing relationships from my summer as a fellow while also cultivating new ones as I work to spark change in North Carolina.”
